5-24-12 ONE STEP BACK AND A CLOSE SHAVE FORWARD FOR THE REAR BUMPERS.

ONE STEP BACK.

We had one more round of trimming necessary to get the fenders back on in perfect alignment, or should I say as perfect as they can be given we're talking about truck built in the 60s when fit and finish on trucks were not quite as important as say, a Corvette, a Cadillac, or a Buick Rivera.

Once the fenders were in place yesterday, we made two decisions:

1: to make one more round of panel trimming to get the fenders to line up really well.

2: to install all-new rubber shims, which will change the way the fenders fit but give us a more accurate shot at getting the fenders aligned as well as they can be.

We put in in reverse half an hour later.

Off came the radiator support, the inner fenders (marked for final trimming), and the fenders. One more round of adjustments and we'll remount everything so that we can get the hood hinge supports perfectly lined up with the underside of the hood.

Now for the one step forward.

THE REAR MOUNTS ARE FABBED, WELDED IN AND AND THE BUMPER IS SHAVED.

My metal guy concentrated on the rear bumpers installed his fabricated frame mounts and welding them onto the frame where we'd cut away the stock ones.

For it's forward for the rear bumper and reverse for the front end, if only temporarily.

Either way, it's momentum and I'll take it.

The fabricated bumper mounts are welded to the frame ends and the bumpers are tucked
and sitting pretty.

I don't have the heart to bring welds this nice.

Nest we drilled the holes for the bumper bolts.

More weld porn.

Behind the bumper is a nice, perfectly dangled mounting surface.

Onward!
